Luxury car maker Bentley has teamed up with British phone manufacturer Vertu to make a ‘Bentley smartphone.’ Scheduled to launch in October, the first “Vertu for Bentley” phone is expected to kick off a series of five different luxury smartphone models to be launched over five years. The new phones will be developed jointly by the Vertu and Bentley design teams.
“The collaboration expands Bentley’s luxury range into the cutting-edge world of mobile communications and offers customers a new way to experience the world of Bentley,” says Wolfgang Durheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors. The new partners hope to create a Vertu phone that works in sync with Bentley cars, and plan to ship the handsets with a dedicated app that does just that.
The exact specifics of the new device are remain a mystery and Vertu didn’t respond to a request for further information, but the press release explains that handset will feature “exclusive Bentley experiences” and “the latest Bentley content”. Users will have access to exclusive Bentley content through an integrated app that will come pre-installed on the devices. The partnership is expected to be backed by a joint marketing campaign, with Vertu working closely with Bentley during several international events.
Today, the Vertu brand is distributed in over 500 stores located across 66 countries. The manufacturer is known for its luxury phones such as the Signature Touch and the Constellation, which are sold for several thousand dollars and are often covered in gold or embedded with diamonds.
