The Koenigsegg One:1 – The World’s Fastest Hypercar?

Brutish, over-the-top, and faster than almost any other car on the road easily describes the latest brainchild of Swedish supercar maker Christian von Koenigsegg in his latest eye-opening endeavor: the Koenigsegg One:1.

Aptly named for its kilo to horsepower ratio, the hotrod lauds 1,341 horses to a weight of about 1,360 kilograms; hence the nifty name of One:1. Its prominent weight to horsepower juxtaposition has many heralding it as the world’s first “megacar.”

Koenigsegg One 1 Rear

The One:1 is a powerful beast, equipped with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that’s capable of delivering 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) at 3,000-7,500 rpm. The raw power and brute force of this machine enables it to exceed screamingly sensational speeds from 0-249 mph in a meager 20 seconds. The tires also are specially designed to handle speeds exceeding 250 mph, with “active” flaps and a specially designed rear wing that’s automated and controlled by the car’s motherboard; the wing also aids the driver in stopping, acting much like the flaps on the wings of large jetliners (air brakes).

With this much power, there are few other supercars that can ever hope to compete as far as acceleration and top speed are concerned.

The Fine Details

  • The Hennessey Venom GT can do 270 mph, reaching 60 mph in about 2 seconds flat with a brutish 1,244 horsepower.
  • The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport offers speeds of 268 mph, reaching 60 mph in about 2.3 seconds with about 1,200 horses under the hood.
  • The Koenigsegg Agera R is capable of topping 260 mph, surpassing 60 mph in about 2.9 seconds with a cavalcade of 1,099 horsepower.

Koenigsegg One Top

Interestingly enough, the new Koenigsegg One:1 puts this car maker in the top four two times for the world’s fastest car. It also shares one other thing in common with its rivals from Hennessey and Bugatti: a seven figure sticker price. But don’t look to get your hands on one too soon. That’s because only seven have been made and were purchased in advance, with an undisclosed price tag (of at least seven figures) to unlisted and private buyers.
