Burberry has chosen British supermodels Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn to be the face of its spring 2015 Campaign. It’s the first time the duo – both among the fashion industry’s most famous black models – have been snapped together. Mario Testino photographed the images under the direction of Burberry’s chief creative and chief executive officer Christopher Bailey.
The studio images picture Dunn with her arm slung around Campbell’s shoulder, while another shot has Campbell hugging Dunn. Bailey points out that “Naomi and Jourdan — two great British icons, two strong, beautiful women and the two perfect faces for our new campaign,” While the upcoming spring campaign marks Jourdan fourth for Burberry since 2011, it’s the first time Naomi has been in a Burberry campaign since 2001, with a reputation of appearing with other greats like Kate Moss.
Campbell and Dunn are both pictured in Burberry’s trenchcoats, which Bailey has reimagined for the season in bold shades of pink and turquoise, printed with painterly illustrations of vintage book covers and British flora and fauna, along with styles in teal and lilac suede. The Bee bag for women, a boxy style that contrasts colorful leathers with the house check, is also front and center in the campaign.
The men’s campaign features Brit musicians George Barnett, the drummer in These New Puritans who’s already the face of Burberry Brit Rhythm for men, and George Le Page, the drummer in Of Empires. Those images will highlight Burberry’s tailoring, along with its Travel Satchel bags, while the Field Sneaker shoes will appear in the men’s and women’s ads.
The campaign will launch globally in January and appear in outdoor and print advertising, alongside platforms including burberry.com, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Sina Weibo, Youku and WeChat. A selection of Burberry’s trenchcoats will launch on burberry.com and in stores on Sunday, while the full spring collection will hit stores on Jan. 5.
