A red-carpet ceremony hosted by one of India’s superstar Seema Rahmani, the Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony was an extravagant showpiece which offered guests a series of fine local entertainment, a lavish gourment banquet and of course, the man event of the evening, the presentation of prestigious Travel awards, accolades and a show of gratitude.

Commemorated as ‘the Oscars of the travel industry’, the World Travel Awards celebrated its 21st Anniversary, and the milestone is an acknowledgement across the globe that it is a giant in the travel industry. The hosts for the night, The Oberoi, New Delhi also had reason to cheer, picking up the trophy for Asia’s Leading Luxury Hotel, while parent Oberoi Hotels & Resorts was recognised as Asia’s Leading Luxury Hotel Brand to add to it cabinet of accolades. Recognised as a pioneer and a trailblazer in lxuury hotel circles in India, The Oberi, New Delhi’s elegant interior, flawless service and delightful cuisine, not only allowed it to take the number one spot, but also made it a perfect host to hold such a grandiose event.

In aviation, Hainan Air , labelled as the “five star legend” was recognised as Asia’s Leading Airline – Business Class, Singapore Airlines was handed Asia’s Leading Airline and Air New Zealand took the title of Australasia’s Leading Airline. On ground zero, Changi Airport defended its title of Asia’s Leading Airport for an unprecedented ninth year.

Indonesia Ministry of Tourism had something to smile about as they went home with the trophy for Asia’s Leading Tourist Board.World Travel Awards saw its annual Grand Tour launch successfully in Dubai in May, with Gala Ceremonies following in Greek capital Athens and Quito, high in the mountains of Ecuador.

In a special presentation at the climax of the ceremony, the title of Asia’s Leading Travel Personality was bestowed upon Mr Zhang Ling, Chairman of HNA Tourism Group. The Group also took the title of Asia’s Leading Travel Management Company, while Deer Jet took the prestigious award for Asia’s Leading Private Jet Charter. Continuing the winning streak, Tangla Hotels & Resorts walked away with the prize for Asia’s Leading Lifestyle Hotel Brand.

WTA The Grand Final 2014.

A final regional Gala Ceremony will take place on the sunshine island of Anguilla later this month, before Morocco welcomes World Travel Awards to Marrakech for the Grand Final 2014.
