It is for personal reasons, that Jil Sander is leaving her namesake label. Replacing Raf Simons as he joined Dior, Jil Sander had only quite recently, as in February 2012 returned to the house. She had initially resigned from her chairman position back in 2001 after selling the majority of her label to Prada the previous year. Shortly after she had thus resigned as chief designer and was replaced by Milan Vukmirovic. 2 years later she was reinstated, in May 2003. After reported conflicts with Bertelli Sander left once again, in November 2004. And now, 2013 she is yet leaving again with her last collection being the spring/summer 2014 we saw in Milan in September. However, the autumn/winter 2014 collection will be designed by the label’s in-house design team.
We wish her all the best and can only agree with chief executive Alessandro Cremonesi who thanked Jil for her contribution to the label and acknowledged her work by saying: “Her outstanding design and creative leadership have been crucial in reinforcing the brand and positioning it to foster further prosperous growth”.
