Baselworld 2017 Preview: Chanel Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine

With the Baselworld 2017 watch and jewellery show just a few days away (23rd March – 30th March, 2017), Chanel has revealed a new timepiece to include to its “Mademoiselle Privé” ladies’ collection. The “Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine” is a tribute to a life and times of Gabrielle Chanel that left a lasting impression on the brand and continuous to draw inspiration from. This piece’s design in particular is inspired by the Cistercian stained-glass windows of Aubazine abbey in south-western France.

After showcasing the “Mademoiselle Privé Coromandel Flying Birds” during last year’s Swiss watch event, Chanel has scheduled to present the timepiece in front of a discerning crowd at this year’s show. Manufactured by a team of skilled artisans, that includes expert enamellists, engravers, carvers and jewel-setters; the watch brings a mix of creativity and luxury watchmaking expertise.

Following the trend of the other pieces in the collection, “Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine” pays homage to one of the symbols dear to Gabrielle Chanel. In this chapter of the “Mademoiselle Privé” collection, the French luxury brand draws inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel’s childhood, which was in part spent at the orphanage of Aubazine abbey that was a Cistercian monastery in the Corrèze region of France. The watch dial has intricate pattern, directly inspired by the abbey’s stained-glass windows.

As well as being handcrafted with special expertise, the new “Mademoiselle Privé” watch is made from a number of exquisite materials.

The watch is enclosed with 37.5mm 18K white gold case set with 552 brilliant-cut diamonds numbering approximately 3.03 karats. The 18K white gold crown is also set with a diamond of around 0.19 karats.

Set with diamonds of varying cuts (notably brilliant and baguette cuts), equalling approximately 2.68 karats, the dial features 18K white gold hands. The watch comes with a black satin strap with an 18K white gold folding buckle, set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Water-resistant to 30 meters, the “Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine” watch has an automatic mechanical movement with hours and minutes functions. It has a 42-hour power reserve.
